South West Coast Path
Swanage To South Haven Point

Swanage to South Haven Point

Miles: 7.79 miles (11.2 km)
Walk Difficulty: Medium
Time: 5 hrs
Total Ascent/Descent: 1259 ft
High point: 287 ft

For me this was more than just reaching the end point but the start of a new hiking beginning!! Starting on the sea front at Swanage follow the beach all the way until the end and you will discover a wooden stair case that will take you up onto the South West Coast Path. The only real challenge was the hike up out of Swange but then the rest was all downhill to Studland. Be warned there were lots of nude people at the end section of the beach.
Over all this really is a truly spectacular section of the SWCP. The views of Poole Harbour, Old Harrys Rocks and even the sight of the isle of wight in the distance, plus being able to step back into history and visiting an old WW2 bunker this really was a great experience.

Starting at The Smuggler’s Inn I set off following the Acorn sign on to the South West Coast Path heading to Lulworth Cove. This really is a spectacular and demanding hike along the Dorset Coastline. Jurassic Coast
Storm Emma

Jurassic Coast

Storm Emma combined with the “Beast from the East” left such a dramatic landscape here in West Dorset and one that has not been seen since 1982. The huge snow storms, freezing temperatures and 70 mph winds made perfect conditions for a winter hike and to face some extreme elements here in Dorsetshire. Seeing the Jurassic coast covered in snow was truly amazing and unique experience, one I will not forget.

Colmers Hill
Beast From The East

Colmers Hill

Blizzards, 70mph winds, bitter cold temperatures with a ‘coldest winter in 30 years’ −14 °C (7 °F) the “Beast from the East” created some of the most testing weather ever experienced here in the UK. So the best thing for me to do on a day like this was to head out for a winter hike and see my local iconic landmark Colmers Hill and the Shire in all its glory.
